Common Delivery Methods in International Trade

 

has compiled a classification for everyone:

 

EXW(Ex Works, Factory Delivery): The seller delivers the goods to the buyer at a self-produced warehouse or other designated place, and the seller does not bear any transportation, customs declaration, etc. costs and risks. The buyer is responsible for subsequent transportation, customs clearance and other matters.

FCA(Free Carrier): The seller delivers the goods to the designated carrier and is responsible for all costs and risks before the goods are loaded or shipped. The buyer is responsible for receiving the goods and bearing the subsequent costs and risks of unloading, transportation, customs clearance, etc.

FOB(Free on Board, FOB): The seller is responsible for loading the goods on board the ship and bearing all costs and risks prior to loading the goods on board the ship. The buyer is responsible for receiving the goods and bearing the subsequent costs and risks of unloading, transportation, customs clearance, etc.

CIF(Cost, Insurance and Freight, cost, insurance and freight): The seller is responsible for paying the cost of transporting the goods to the port of destination, insurance premiums and the cost of transportation of the goods prior to shipment, but the risk of unloading the goods at the port of destination and import customs clearance is borne by the buyer.

CPT(Carriage Paid to, freight paid to): The seller is responsible for the transport of the goods to the destination, but the cost of unloading, customs clearance, etc. in the destination country is borne by the buyer.

CIP(Carriage and Insurance Paid to, freight and insurance paid to): The seller is responsible for transporting the goods to the destination and paying the cost of insurance in transit. The cost of unloading, customs clearance, etc. in the country of destination shall be borne by the buyer.

DAT(Delivery at Terminal, destination terminal delivery): The seller delivers the goods to the terminal designated by the destination and bears all costs and risks until the goods are transported to the destination terminal. The buyer is responsible for receiving the goods and bearing the subsequent costs and risks such as unloading and customs clearance.

DAP(Delivery at Place, destination delivery): The seller delivers the goods to the destination and bears all costs and risks of the goods until they are transported to the destination. The buyer is responsible for receiving the goods and bearing the subsequent costs and risks such as unloading and customs clearance.

DDP(Delivery Duty Paid): The seller delivers the goods to the destination and bears all costs and risks, including import duties and VAT, until the goods are transported to the destination. The buyer is responsible for receiving the goods.
